Associate Technical Director – Architecture

Role &
Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop an architectural team in the delivery of high-quality models, documentation, and technical solutions for Australian and international clients.
  • Ensure all project deliverables comply with relevant building codes, standards, and client requirements; provide technical guidance and constructability reviews across all project stages.
  • Oversee the cost-effective, timely, and profitable delivery of projects, including resource planning, workload forecasting, and financial monitoring.
  • Support business development by maintaining and expanding client relationships, especially with key Australian clients; participate in bidding, fee proposals, and contract negotiations.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, budgets, and resource allocation; identify and resolve technical or resourcing issues proactively.
  • Provide technical leadership in implementing, maintaining, and improving Atlas’ quality management and production systems, including QMS and TAP procedures.
  • Mentor, train, and support team members on relevant regulatory requirements, best practices, and the latest digital technologies (including BIM and multidisciplinary coordination).
  • Collaborate with other Associate Directors, department heads, and support functions (HR, IT, Finance) to ensure integrated solutions and optimal resource use for multi-discipline projects.
  • Drive innovation and the adoption of new technologies, workflows, and automation in architectural delivery.
  • Chair and participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project status updates, act function as a key point of contact for technical and commercial matters.
  • Support senior leadership in strategic planning, business development, and operational management for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by line manager or Management to support business needs.

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Experience

 

  • An Australian registered architect.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian building regulations, standards, and construction methods.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in architecture, with a strong focus on project delivery for the Australian market; recent experience managing major projects at various design stages.
  • Minimum involvement in 3 major Australian rail projects, leading the delivery team or serving as a key member of the delivery team.
  • Experienced in design coordination, engineering coordination, and multidiscipline coordination for rail projects.
  • Experienced in contracts, fee proposals, and on-site project delivery.
  • Experienced in managing teams of 20 staff on Australian rail projects in the production of Revit design and construction models, as well as design and construction drawings.
  • Experience in off-shore or in-country remote project delivery is preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and manage high-performing teams and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
  • Proficiency in BIM and Revit capability.
  • Highly computer literate, including MS Office, MS Project, and digital documentation workflows.
  • Up to date with the latest technological and digital developments in architecture and construction.
