Associate Technical Director (Structural & Civil)

Role &
Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop a structural and civil engineering team in the delivery of high-quality models, documentation, and technical solutions for international clients.
  • Ensure all project deliverables comply with relevant structural and civil codes, standards, and specific client requirements; provide technical guidance and constructability reviews across all project stages.
  • Oversee the cost-effective, timely, and profitable delivery of structural and civil projects, including resource planning, workload forecasting, and financial monitoring.
  • Support business development by maintaining and expanding client relationships; participate in bidding, fee proposals, and contract negotiations.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, budgets, and resource allocation; proactively identify and resolve technical or resourcing issues.
  • Provide technical leadership in implementing, maintaining, and improving Atlas’ quality management and production systems, including QMS and TAP procedures.
  • Mentor, train, and support team members on relevant regulatory requirements, best practices, and the latest digital technologies, including BIM, analysis software, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Collaborate with other Associate Directors, department heads, and support functions (HR, IT, Finance) to ensure integrated solutions and optimal resource use for multi-discipline projects.
  • Drive innovation and adoption of new technologies, workflows, and automation in structural and civil engineering delivery.
  • Chair and participate in client meetings, design and technical reviews, and project status updates, act as a key point of contact for technical and commercial matters.
  • Support senior leadership in strategic planning, business development, and operational management for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by line manager or Management to support business needs.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc Hons) and Post Graduate Diploma (or equivalent) in Structural or Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body such as IStructE, ICE, Engineers Australia, or other recognized local equivalent is preferred.
  • Alternatively, recognized structural or civil engineering qualifications with significant staff and client management experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in structural and/or civil engineering, including project management and major project delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of international and local structural and civil codes, standards, and construction methods.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams, including coordination with external consultants.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating multi-discipline projects and working across different engineering and design teams.
  • Strong client management, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with contracts, fee proposals, and on-site project delivery is highly desirable.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and detail-focused approach.
  • High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in BIM (Revit Structure, Civil 3D, Navisworks), Autodesk platforms, MS Office, and MS Project.
  • Experience in international or multicultural environments is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in digital transformation and the application of AI or data-driven solutions in engineering is highly valued.
